Pumpkin picking
One of autumn’s most delightful activities, pumpkin picking is fast becoming an October tradition in the UK. Whether you’re doing it for the ‘gram, prefer plucking your own gourd fresh from the soil or just love getting into the spirit of Halloween, I’ve rounded up the best places to go pumpkin picking in Somerset.

Best places for pumpkin picking in South Somerset
The Trough Patch, pumpkin picking Yeovil
2025 dates: 11 & 12 October, 18 & 19, 24-31 October, 10am – 4pm
Family-run farm shop and cafe on the edge of Yeovil, The Trough, has planted thousands of pumpkins for you to get your woollen mits on!
Become the number one pumpkin-picker in your family by selecting the ultimate jack-o-lantern. No booking is required, prices vary depending on size. Dogs on leads welcome.

Fairfield Pumpkins, Yeovil
2025 dates: 11, 12, 18,19, 24-31 October, 10am-4pm
Fairfield pumpkins’ 4-acre patch will be ripe for the pickin’ this October. This year’s plan for autumn magic includes a brand new Haunted House, goats (they run a goat dairy and cow farm alongside), games, facepainting, woodcrafts, pop-up food stalls and more! Adults: £3, Children: £1, under 3s: Free. Wellies recommended. No booking required.
Want to spookify your pumpkin plucking? on 24 and 31 October from 6-10pm, Fairfield Pumpkin Patch’s ‘After Dark’ event features a bar, live music from Jorden Lindsay and Alfie Galpin, Haunted House and marshmallow roasting! Adults £12 p.p, children, £7.
Roth Bar and Grill Pumpkin Festival, Bruton
2025 dates: 25 October, 11am-4pm
Roth Bar and Grill’s annual Pumpkin Festival includes pumpkin-themed activities for kids, lawn games, live music, scrummy food cooked over fire pits and a tempting variety of seasonal spiced drinks.
Visit Oudolf Field in its autumn glory from 10am, and then explore the exhibition, ‘Niki de Saint Phalle & Jean Tinguely. Myths & Machines’ and Education Lab, ‘Our Imaginary World’ from 12pm.
Roth Bar will be open from 9am serving drinks and Da Costa for lunch from 12pm.

Pumpkin Rolling, Forde Abbey
2025 dates: 25 October– 2 November
Purchase a pumpkin grown and harvested from the Forde Abbey Patch, carry it to the top lawn and get rolling! Roll to your heart’s content, then take your bulbous ball of orange home for Halloween. Times: 10.30am-4pm.
Tickets: Adult £15, Child £6. Additional charge for your chosen pumpkin

Frogmary Green Farm, South Petherton
2025 dates: TBC
The lovely Frogmary Farm is opening up their pumpkin patch in Somerset once again for some picturesque pumpkin patch picking ! Entry is FREE and you’ll only pay if you pick any pumpkins. Small – £2 Medium – £3 Large – £5.
Thistledown Farm pumpkin patch, Babcary
Sadly Thistledown Farm won’t be hosting their traditional ‘Pick Your Own Pumpkins’ this year, they’re letting the fields rest and prepare for an even larger and more exciting harvest next year.
Best pumpkin patches Somerset West
Thurloxton Farm, pumpkin picking Taunton
2025 dates: open from 25 October
Thurloxton Pumpkin patch, on the Quick family’s Pick Your Own fruit-growing farm, sits at the foot of the Quantocks near Taunton. Take a spooky walk to the pumpkin fields to pluck your prize pumpkin, before taking it to the carving barn and getting involved with games such as “Hit the Witch” giant apple catapult.
Fiamma Pizza will be serving delicious handmade wood-fired pizzas every day.
Tickets £12 on weekdays, £14.50 on weekends for pumpkin pickers, accompanying pickers £3.50, pumpkin not included.

Pitt Farm Pumpkins, Wellington
2025 dates: 11-12, 18-19, 25-31 October
Grab a wheelbarrow and go and pick your own pumpkin at Pitt Farm. There are over 30 different varieties of pumpkin, squash and gourd for the taking as well as a Maize Maze, bale mountain and snacks and drinks on offer at the pop-up cafe.
Pumpkin prices start from 2 for £1, and up to £15 for the whoppers.
Tickets: £2 Per Person (3 years and above, under 2s go free but require a ticket).

Quantock Pumpkin Patch, Kilve
2025: weekends from 4 October, daily 25-31 October, 10am-4pm
Come for the pumpkins and enjoy the autumn magic, Halloween fun, and more! Explore the activity barn with messy and sensory play, colouring, and farm animals at Quantock Pumpkin Patch. Nearest postcode is TA5 1EH. Entry: £1 per person (under 1s free)
Quantock After Dark – new for 2025!
2025: 7.30pm
Get ready for an evening of fiery excitement at the Quantock Pumpkin Patch! With drinks, live music, and the spectacular burning of the Quantock Giant. Tuck into local food, including wood-fired pizzas, burgers, and more.

Birds Farm, Knapp, North Curry

Birds Farm will be open for pumpkin picking for 7 days, 10am-4pm, P.Y.O Pumpkins – small – £5, medium – £8, large – £12.

Palette and Pasture Frome
2025 dates: weekends in October & October half term
Pumpkin picking near Frome happens at Palette and Pasture on rural Pyle Farm. Go pumpkin hunting and pick as many as you like during your 2-hour time slot. Pumpkins range from warty (£2.50) to whoppers (£12.50)! Be sure to bring cash for any extra pumpkins that catch your eye on the day as their card machine does not always work in the field.
There are also goats and sheep to meet and feed, pedal tractors, a digger pit and inflatable sessions for little ones (weather dependent). PLUS an Ice Cream Parlour serving Palette and Pasture’s very own gelato, made from their dairy herd. Spooky-licious.

Bath Pumpkin Patch, Bath
2025 dates: Weekends from 4 October and October half term
There are 8 acres to scour to find the pumpkin of your dreams on family-run Bath Pumpkin Patch, just 10-minutes from Bath.
Plus welly wanging, pumpkin-populated photo opps, witch storytime by a gnarled ‘haunted tree’, plus Newton farm treats, mask making and facepainting (charged extra). If you’re looking for a cheaper pumpkin patch experience, with gorgeous countryside views this could be for you! Book free tickets in advance to secure your place.

Avon Valley Pumpkin Patch
2025 dates: 27 & 28 September. 4, 5, 11, 12 18, 19, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 & 31 October
In addition to pumpkin picking, Avon Valley Pumpkin Patch will be packed with spooky characters roaming the grounds, fairground rides (additional charge), Pumpkin Paintball, fire shows, Scarecrow Shoot’em, brand-new apple cannons, a Pumpkin Slingshot, and a fun fair – plus much more! It’s a true pumpkin-packed extravaganza!
Tickets for Pumpkin Patch: £4.99 per person (£6.99 for Pumpkin Nights). Tickets are £2 more expensive on the day so best to book in advance!
Rides/games are charged extra. Tickets to the Pumpkin Patch do not give you access to Avon Valley Park which is closed at this time.

FEARless at Avon Valley
FEARless at Avon Valley is back for 2025, running on select nights: open 25, 29, 30 & 31 October. Designed for 11-15 year olds, this immersive, family-friendly experience offers four (tamed down) scare attractions for youngsters.
The evening includes epic fire shows, spooky street performers, funfair rides, and side stalls. For adults, there’s the FEAR at Avon Valley Scream Park, plus a licensed bar, and delicious street food.
Farrington’s Farm Pumpkin picking
4th, 5th, 11th, 12th, 18th, 19th, 24th – 31 October 2025.
With over 40,000 pumpkins planted, Farrington’s Pumpkin Festival is bursting with autumn fun. Wheel your barrow through the patch to find your perfect pick.
The fun doesn’t stop there: toast marshmallows in Whinny the Witch’s cauldron, dive into the straw pool, ride the pop-up funfair, and let little ones loose in the playbarn. Round off your visit with fresh seasonal goodies from the farm shop or a cosy bite in the café.

Spooky trails and Halloween events Somerset
Ninesprings Halloween Trail, Yeovil
2025: 31 October, 11am-2pm
Pick up a Yeovil Country Park Halloween trail map from the frightful ‘Friends of Yeovil Country Park’ stall opposite Ninesprings Café between 11am – 2pm, and follow the pumpkin markers through the eerie woods.
Find the missing letters hidden at several marked stops along the way to help craft a spell and receive a prize. A buggy friendly/little legs short route will be available and clearly signposted. The trail takes around one hour to complete and the last entry will be at 2pm. £2 per child, under 3s go free.


The Ghost Train Glow Party, Bath & West Showground
2025 dates: 31 October, 4.30pm-9pm
Step into a glowing world at the Bath & West Showground. Take a Ghost Train ride through spooky surprises, rock out at the children’s party, watch magical performances, enjoy a glowing puppet show with your favourite spooky friends, join the Monster Mash disco and win exciting prizes and sip on spooky mocktails.
The Time Travelling Carpenter at The Bishop’s Palace, Wells
2025 dates: 25 October
Join Jeff Loader, the Time Travelling Carpenter, for a lively demonstration of medieval artistry. Discover the tools, materials, and techniques used on walls, wood, and banners, and watch as he crafts traditional paintbrushes. American Halloween, American Museum & Gardens
2025 dates: 25 October-2 November
Celebrate Halloween in American style at the American Museum & Gardens, just outside Bath with pumpkin trails, scarecrow photo spots, crafts in the Stables, and a “Pay What You Can” day on 29 Oct.
Dress up for family photos, explore the Beyond Infinity space exhibition, and join on 31 October for trick-or-treating with candy stations, a dog costume contest, and an evening Kids’ Rave with the Super Pirates (book separately).

FRIGHTworks At Sea, Weston-super-Mare
Bring your family along to Weston’s Grand Pier this 31 October 2025 for an extra spooky edition of the annual fireworks display, with live circus performers and more.
What’s on October half term at The Museum of Somerset, Taunton
- Visit Taunton Castle at the spookiest time of year! Celebrate the Museum of Somerset’s 150th birthday this October Half Term (28-30 October 2025)! Children can create and decorate party hats and bags (£2), and follow the new ‘My Favourite Things’ trail around the museum(£1).
- On 31 October (Halloween) go dressed in your creepiest costumes and explore the museum by torch light as the lights are turned out for a spooky crafts and stories under cover of darkness.

Lytes Scary Halloween Trail
2025 dates: 25-31 October
National Trust Halloween events are always one of my favourite things to do during October half term in Somerset. Discover what’s lurking in the woods at Lytes Cary – be they witches, ghosts, or evil spirits? Can you crack the spoooooky riddle?
£3.50 per trail and includes a trail sheet, pencil and mask.

October half term children’s activities at Barrington Court
Have a go at the Autumn Pumpkin Trail – October Half Term (25-31 October -2 November 2025) and explore the grounds to find pumpkins hiding around the estate.
Grab a mini wheelbarrow and help gather windfall apples for harvesting (27 October-2 November). Home to over 100 varieties of apples, once collected, they will go off to be turned into delicious cider.


Tyntesfield Halloween half term trail
2025 dates: 25 October–2 November
Discover the quirky and spooky ways Victorians celebrated Halloween and complete the activities at each trail station. Finish the trail to earn a prize and find out if your detective skills were up to the challenge. More details on halloween things at Tyntesfield.
Don’t miss the stunning Tyntesfield autumn harvest display in the Orangery.

Bat’s Autumn Adventure Trail at Stourhead National Trust
2025 dates: 4 October-2 November
One of the world’s finest landscaped gardens, the preposterously scenic Stourhead is beautiful all year-round, but in Autumn, the estate really likes to show off. Hillsides swathed in woodland are transformed into a patchwork of golds, scarlets and burnt orange, making for some seriously seasonal scenes.
Viewpoints gaze out to follies, a Palladian bridge (one of only four in the UK) and temples set around a glassy lake, tinged with the reflections of the fiery leaves.
There’s also an impressive manor house, grotto, a gothic cottage filled with pumpkins to explore, and the meandering pathways are buggy-friendly to boot!


Family Halloween Woodland Experience, ROAM, Dillington Estate
2025 dates: 25 October
For wholesome things to do in autumn, enter the wonderful woodland of ROAM Outdoors Activity Centre family for some spooky Halloween activities! Follow the Halloween Trail to unlock a prize, carve a Pumpkin and eat ghostly marshmallows. Visitors will also have access to rope and tyre swings, the log-stacle course, slack line and mud kitchens.

*Hestercombe Gardens has entered administration, so no Halloween event will be taking place this year.


Halloween at Wookey Hole
2025 dates: 4 October–2 November
Pondering what to do in October half term? There’s no spookier time of year than to visit the enchanting realm of the Witch of Wookey than Halloween!
Once you’ve explored the caves, join in the Giant Vampire trail, take a pic in the pumpkin patch, pop into the cinema to watch Happy Family: Next Level 4D, watch a Vampire circus show and take part in the daily best-dressed competition at 2.45pm in the Theatre. There’e also a vintage penny arcade and pirate-themed mini golf!

Halloween at Cheddar Gorge & Caves

The Ghoulish Goat returns to Cheddar Gorge for spooktacular Halloween fun this October Half Term. Families can enjoy an immersive audio story spooky trail, Halloween party with crafts and games, and themed treats in Gough’s Café.
Dunster Castle school of magic

Halloween Zombie Outbreak at Mendip Activity Centre
2025 dates: 4 October-3 November
Are you brave enough to join Mendip’s Zombie Outbreak Response Team? Halloween activities will be taking place at Mendip Activity Centre throughout the month of October – expect spooky decorations, zombie targets, Halloween-themed tobogganing and more!

Cubs Halloween party, Ilminster
2025 dates: 29, 30, 31 October
If you’re looking for Halloweeny October activities this Somerset half term, Ilminster’s Cubs soft play for under-8 year olds will be running two spooky soft play sessions, which must be booked in advance. Hunt for hidden pumpkins, pin the spider on the web, paint your own pumpkin and more!
Book tickets for Halloween sensory play for your tiniest devils (0-1 years) on 29 Oct (9.30am-11.30am) – £4 per child.

Puxton Park spooktacular supper
2025 dates: 17 & 30 October
This October half term (27-31 October), Puxton Park hosts the Wizard Academy! Kids can meet real wizards, learn spell-casting, and enjoy magical shows (FREE to join but booking required). Adults can watch the fun while visiting rides and animals.
Puxton will also be hosting a Pumpkin date night on 17 October from 6-9pm, with a tractor ride, pumpkin picking, and cosy carving under fairy lights. Chill out beneath a twinkling tent with blankets, music, and seasonal food and drinks.
For those with kiddos in tow, check out the fang-tastic Spooktacular Supper on 30 October from 6-8 pm. For £15 per person, guests will get a buffet, children’s entertainment, Halloween disco, games and access to the soft play area.
There’s also pumpkin picking (dates currently being finalise) and a haunted attraction for over 12s, Puxton Phobia!
Space Adventurers, Taunton
- Wednesday 29 & Thursday 30 October, 5-7pm
Halloween half term at Space Adventurers means a fancy-dress comp (with prizes!), pumpkin hunt, zombie laser tag, UV glow sticks and a foamy finale! Tickets are £14.95 per child and £3.49 per adult.
All Hallows Eve Workshops, The Newt
Round off half-term at The Newt with magical and mythical All Hallows Eve workshops. On 30 October, puppeteer Talullah Swirls leads a hands-on session inspired by Mexico’s Día de Los Muertos – children can create their own skeleton shadow puppets and watch a puppet show. £15 per person – book now.
On 31 October, explore the estate for Halloween. Make a lantern and join the parade through the Deer Park, gathering at the 200-year-old Druid Tree for fireside stories and marshmallows.

There’s all sorts of FREE (donations welcome) creative things to do in October half term 2025 at East Quay, Watchet.

Ferne Animal Sanctuary, near Chard
2025 dates: 31 October
Head to Ferne Animal Sanctuary for a faboolous time filled with Halloween Games in The Hub, Spooky Trail, Creative Corner (bats, cats and spider arts and crafts) and a fancy dress competition. This is a ticketed event, pre-book your ticket here.
Afterwards, warm up with lunch, snacks and drinks at Perdida Cafe.
Monster Mash at Animal Farm Adventure Park

Great British autumn, Longleat Safari Park
- 25 October-2 November 2025
Longleat’s Great British Autumn offers family fun with a Top Trumps Trail, crafts, wildlife workshops, and animal encounters. Go on a drive-through safari to see magnificent creatures, try the hedge maze, take a peek at Longleat House, enjoy bird of prey shows, and cruise past hippos and sea lions on the lake.

Halloween at The Station, Midsomer Norton South
2025 dates: 26 October
Hop aboard the Halloween Train at Midsomer Norton on 26 October for a spooky ride! Kids (16 and under) in Halloween costume travel FREE, and you can ride both the Haunted DMU and a steam train.
With Halloween activities, shop and buffet open 10am-4pm, it’s a faBOO-lous family day out. Tickets (£12 adults, £6 kids) sell fast -book early to avoid missing this frightfully fun half-term treat!

Spooky Specials at East Somerset Miniature Railway, Shepton Mallet
2025 dates: 25 October
Take the kids for a spine-tingling steam train journey to Mendip Vale on East Somerset Railway. Back at the station find your way round the ghoulish trail, check out the newly-refurbished museum, ticket office and period waiting room.
Sleuthing aboard the Ship, Fleet Air Arm Museum
27-31 October 2025
Step aboard the Aircraft Carrier Experience for a thrilling mystery adventure! Explore the ship, meet costumed characters, and solve puzzles to uncover hidden secrets. Free with museum entry. Performances daily at 11am, 12:30pm, and 2pm.
Active Aviators at the Fleet Air Arm Museum
2025 dates: 23 October, 10.30am-12pm
Head to Fleet Air Arm in Yeovilton this October for a not-too-scary Halloween session for toddlers!
Dress in cute costume and have a go at flying bat crafts, sensory play, and sing-alongs with nursery songs. For under 5s with grown-ups. £5 per adult, up to 3 children.

The Gartell Light Railway
2025 dates: 26 October
This delightful narrow gauge railway in South Somerset is privately operated by the Gartell family and their friends and only opened to the public on selected dates throughout the year. This October, the railway will open on 26 October for your train-riding pleasure.
Haynes International Motor Museum
2025 dates: 25 October–2 November
For October half term things to do, why not join the Big Bug Hunt at Haynes Motor Museum and track down creepy crawlies threatening historic cars. Earn a sticker, explore iconic vehicles, enjoy a motoring play zone, and discover Transitions, a new interactive exhibition on the future of motoring.
